About Us

After moving to the rural heart of the English midlands in 2007 Anna Elias and partner Harvey found themselves being increasingly influenced by the sounds and ethos of the local folk scene. Having played with separate projects and bands in the north they finally began a prolific song writing partnership. The songs, which incorporate elements of traditional and contemporary folk, weave together themes of shadow and light but all linger in a sense of hope and possibility. The name for the debut record, ‘Valleys in the Flatlands’ reflects upon these themes and could be seen as a metaphor for the ‘valley’ times within our own lives. The songs are also strongly influenced by their surrounding landscapes, the changing seasons and the small iconic town of Southwell, dominated by its’ stunning Minster.

In 2009 they commenced writing the debut album. 2010 saw collaborations with a number of folk’s leading lights including Karine Polwart (multiple winner of BBC folks awards), melodeon player Saul Rose (Waterson / Carthy, Faustus & BBC folk awards nominee for best musician) and remarkable harmonica player Will Pound (Pound and Walsh).

Their debut 'Valleys in the Flatlands' is scheduled for release on 5th September 2011. See the live dates page for information on the album launch event.
